"Zippy"

This is it. This is the video you've been waiting for... or couldn't care less about. =P A special thanks goes out to Howard whom I tortured for his time/energy/resources to try to finish this in time for the finals. The character in the animation is "Zippy", who looked quite different when I first created him back in 6th grade. There is no special meaning underlying the story, which is also not much of a story at all. This was purely created for experimenting/fun/grade/maybe portfolio. Some of you might remember a little portion of this animation was the first thing I posted on this blog... Hope the end result doesn't disappoint you. Maybe I'll revisit this one day and fix all that I don't like about it (e.g. sound effects). Anyways, without further ado, I present to you... "Zippy". =)

Are you a fan of Zippy yet? Hmm... maybe subliminally making people familiar with him might increase Zippy's popularity... Presenting Zickey! Mwahahahaha. >=D

Okay, well, maybe not too subtle. Heh... I guess something about Zickey sounds icky. Cheer up, Zippy. I won't do that to you again.

Haha very clever! I actually saw pieces of this on the computer when I was working on my dialogue test. Everyone who peered over my shoulder commented on how good it was (: Great job, everything was so smooth!

And I like Zickey! though you're right, it does remind me of icky...or hickey...

Nice film, So you finally finished it!. But what happened to the pencil idea? I liked that idea better and was looking forward to it. But the matrix one is still cool though.

@ Carrie: Ah... I didn't get to see your dialogue test when I was working on my animation. You should post it on your blog if you haven't already. I can't seem to find it. =P

@ Catherine: Ah, no, I didn't... but then again, I usually never know of such events unless it comes out on The Fish or KKLA... and then I don't really listen to the radio these days much either. The three groups you mentioned all have songs I like, but for the sound, Switchfoot has to be my favorite of the three. =)

@ Eric: Heh, I scrapped the pencil idea. xP Some time into the semester, I decided that the ending I had in mind wasn't cool/funny enough, so as I was rethinking my ending, I chose to make my life easier and "rewrite" my story so it'll be less time consuming for me to work on. Though I do agree there was an interactive element in the pencil story that's lost in my final animation. My ideal animation would've definitely included the pencil sequence or some variation of it. =P

This is way coooooool! I remember seeing the very beginning of it way back when we were wee freshmen. haha! way to go! and i agree with everyone that Zickey is pretty hilarious. I would like to see more of him. Oh, and thanks for all your feedback on my painting. I tried to fix the beak and eyes like you suggested and it really helped a lot. :)

I believe the underlying meaning deals with creation turning away from the Creator, and not only turning away, but outright defiance. Zippy believes his existence is special, and when it is time for his existence to end, he does everything in his power to escape his fate. This is an allusion to current trends in medical technology that go hand in hand with the belief that we will one day be able to eliminate disease and alleviate suffering, in the name of improving quality of life. but with the unspoken perhaps even subconscious goal of confronting our mortality with the intention to challenge it.

@ Jennifer: Nice, the crow looks more fierce now. >=D

@ Eddie: Haha, that notion of my animation reflecting a struggle between the Creator and created was mentioned by my professor. But, alas, I had no such intention to instill that implication in the animation (Ooh, check out me alliterating! =D). There would be so many things contradicting my own philosophies if that were the case: The Creator is a jerk Who looks like a big hand, the creation actually succeeds in surpassing the Creator, and since Zippy would represent us as the creation, it would mean we are hilariously mutated creatures with flattened legs, extremely long arms, and football shaped heads with antennas that have funny little balls at the end... who occasionally act like Mickey Mouse to increase their popularity. Hmm... come to think of it, that last one isn't too far off, is it? =P

YES! The long-awaited animation short is finally finished, and it is brilliant! =)

Hmmm, doesn't Zickey remind you of Pinky from Pinky and the Brain? Or is it just me... =P

Haha, yeah. Now that you mention it, I see a certain resemblance between Zickey and Pinky. xP

Hi Kijeon!
Thank you for posting your comment on my blog! I remember your tiny drawings in that class and they are really nice! :). Bye the way, I saw the first part this animation the first time when May and I came to your class! Your style is unique and I think you did a great job on this animation! Hope to see more works from you!

hey ki, thanks for the compliments. my comic still has the silhouette, but since i put the black on it (through photoshp)it fools your eye a bit more. if i didn't put black it would'a looked super plain, so i did. he's in the middle somewhere if you really look. hahahha.

Hey Kijeon,

Really nice animation. I am very impressed. I can't wait to see what you produce in 3D, if you ever take the 3D animation class. Good luck with all your work.
